If you like walking there are a couple of cracking routes right on our doorstep. The Raven House Walk, a circular route from Market Drayton should take you about 40 minutes and you will see some splendid countryside and there’s an extended version which takes you further into uncharted depths and takes about one hour and twenty minutes. If you just prefer a stroll along level terrain, then a gentle walk along the Ellesmere Canal is another great favourite while if you are really serious about it and want to strap on your boots, then you can do some splendid day walks over the Shropshire Way and discover place names that are redolent of A E Housman’s poem A Shropshire Lad: Bishops Castle, Clun, Ludlow and Wilderhope - and there’s even a programme of walking events, festivals and activities if you want to share your enthusiasm with other likeminded people.
