If you have a love of history then you are bound to love of Shropshire.
No doubt you are already aware of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums – that’s a collection of nine award-winning venues, all within walking distance of each other, that tell the story of this World Heritage Site. Then there is the Severn Valley Railway, offering 16 miles of splendid steam experience through some of the country’s most stunning scenery.
But that’s just the start of it – there are well over a dozen National Trust and English Heritage sites and their time span is pretty spectacular too. From Wroxeter Roman City (Virconium) which was the fourth largest Roman city in Britain, to the Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford which brings history up to date.
There are houses and castles, water mills and even nuclear bunkers. And that’s even before you start to look at the many museums and the history that is oozing out of so many Shropshire towns.
